Also known as mastopexy, a breast lift raises and firms the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour.

A woman’s breasts often change over time, losing their youthful shape and firmness. As we age, gravity and other factors take their toll on our bodies, leaving us with sagging, less voluminous breasts. These changes and loss of skin elasticity can result from:

  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding
  • Weight fluctuations
  • Ageing
  • Gravity
  • Genes

Even when the volume does remain sufficient, the above factors can alter the shape of the breast which often becomes unsatisfactory to the patient. With experience and expertise, Dr Jane Paterson can surgically lift your breasts back to their desired position. Also known as mastopexy, a breast lift raises and firms the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour. This gives the breast a more pleasing shape and ensures the integrity of the tissue is supported and remains intact. Sometimes the areola can become stretched or enlarged over time, and a breast lift can correct this as well.

The surgery will involve tightening the skin and repositioning the breasts for a firmer and perkier look. This procedure will not alter the size of your breasts; however, by lifting the position of your breasts, it will rejuvenate your shape and profile with a youthful and uplifted appearance.

Some of the benefits of breast lift surgery include:

  • Improved appearance and position of nipples
  • Increased breast firmness
  • Reduction in sagging and excess skin
  • Breasts are repositioned for a more youthful appearance

All types of breast lift surgery will result in some relatively minor scarring.  The extent and placement of these scars will be determined on an individual basis, depending on the amount of lift required, and the current quality of the skin and breast tissue.

Breast lift surgery can be performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation (also known as augmentation mastopexy) or breast reduction surgery. The combination of these treatments is used to either increase or decrease upper pole fullness, depending on your needs.

“Following surgery the results and benefits are immediate. For many patients, a breast lift or breast reduction surgery is really life changing. You may find your sense of wellbeing improved and your lifestyle a lot healthier. Patients often tell me that they wish they’d had this operation years ago.”
